An OASIS is rooted in contrast. A beautiful clear water lake, surrounded by tall trees and green wilderness, against the dry, never-ending desert.
I can't think of a tangible oasis where we can escape to. It feels wrong to do so when refuge spaces are being invaded as we breathe. But maybe there's an intangible safe haven, within us, that allows us to feel at peace and safe in ourselves, regardless of the outside world.
I decided to make a project where two embodiments of my soul are represented. So here are my hopeful light part which is represented by the girl and the desperate part which is represented by the undead. My soul can find peace only when they both get on well with each other
Given appropriate technological advances I believe that humankind will diverge and inhabit completely self-sustaining arcologies with minimal inter-arcology interactions. We see this happening today in the form of 'bubbles' in which people of like minds interact however, because the 'bubbles' are not completely independent, issues arise. This future I imagine does *not* preclude diversity of thought within an arcology at all. For example, an arcology for rational, science-believing individuals may have humans of all shades and outlooks. Furthermore, inhabitable structures may very likely have some organic components.
All my work is 3d. After 30+ years as a research Ph.D. in the tech industry I am exploring my creativity in the visual arts.
In the initial artwork, the character and environment start to come to life with the addition of color and texture. The character, maintaining a simple and peaceful appearance, is now surrounded by a vibrant and joyful scenery. The use of warm and inviting colors enhances the sense of serenity and safety, creating a harmonious blend between the character and the environment
The pencil sketch lays the groundwork for the artwork, outlining the character and environment with delicate strokes. The character, designed with simplicity to convey a sense of peace wiill stands amidst a lively and colorful scenery. My artwork aims to evoke the feeling of a sanctuary, a place where one feels completely safe and secure.
My process is super simple. I stick to two to three layers and work my way up from the base, adding objects, light and shadow as I go. I use gradients, transparency, and blend modes to achieve the desired effect. I use the reference image on the artboard or an opposite screen. I never trace elements from my photos, but prefer to eyeball the general look to relay more emotion to the viewer. I also try to add a slight twist, such as the eyes in this one. I then used Photoshop to add noise and do a basic colour pass.
