Digital Matte Artist
Description
The Digital Matte Artist role involves the creation of Mattes (2D or 2.5D/Matte Projections) which support, enhance,
develop and deepen the visual experiences of the audience.
The Digital Matte Artist undertakes the creation of Mattes from interpreting initial brief(s) though concept to final
delivery, applying creative ingenuity to the story, visual and design challenges on Projects and executing work to a
very high standard that meets or exceeds creative, stylistic and visual goals set by Client, Director, Art Director and to
schedule and budget targets set Production and Studio.
The role requires a high degree of communication with the Director, Art Director and the Assets, Lighting Rendering
and Compositing Teams and may also occasionally involve direct communication with Client(s).
The Matte Artist must be a personable, pro-active individual with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and
interact with a wide variety of personality types.
Here at Axis, we are increasingly looking towards creating a more seamless blend between foreground, midground
and distant/background elements. Often, the line between Matte Painting and 3D world/environment building
becomes blurred; indeed, where we can, we look to generate 3D landscape elements through the use of procedural
landscape/environment generation and Speedtree.
