Description

It’s a really exciting time to be at Space Ape Games. We’ve created a fast-paced environment that promotes genuine autonomy and we have projects at all stages of the development cycle. We launched our hit music game, Beatstar, in 2021 and we’re following its success with Countrystar less than two years later. We also officially launched our first puzzle game in July, Chrome Valley Customs, and we’re preparing to scale this game to global success. On top of all this, we’re running several mature live games and working on some exciting new projects behind the scenes!

Chrome Valley Customs is a puzzle and decorate game themed around classic car culture. The player takes rusted wrecks and turns them into dream rides, spending currency they have earned playing an explosive Match 3 puzzle game. Players come to restore cars, but it’s our world class Match 3 puzzle and live-op features that keeps them playing, and as such we need a lot of live-op content! We are looking for an experienced Game Artist to own the visual presentation of live-op mini-games and to create content to engage players for years to come.

Working alongside the game designers you will craft new live-op feature artwork that looks amazing and is fun to play. You will use your previous experience working on mobile titles to help shape a rewarding player experience, and will use your 3D modelling and rendering skills to realise this vision. Every part of the feature will be in your hands as you take the assets to completion, integrating animations and VFX to add the finishing flourishes to your explosive creations.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience as a professional Artist, working on casual mobile games
  • You love the puzzle genre, specifically Match 3. You are passionate about making novel and exciting new experiences for the player, and understand that it is these features that are the lifeblood of the game, keeping players engaged for years.
  • You have great graphic design and illustration skills, and can stylise and simplify where needed to make live-op artwork clear and fun to play.
  • You are a proficient 3D modeller (ideally with a knowledge of Blender) with a good grasp of colour and lighting, and how they can be used to create strong graphic imagery
  • You have a deep knowledge of art content creation in Unity, from asset importing to animation and VFX
  • You love the fine details, and are happiest when you can polish an asset to perfection. You will relish having near complete ownership of an assets design, and will want to add bells and whistles to make it shine
  • You enjoy working collaboratively and take feedback well. You believe that by working together the final result is always better

Responsibilities

  • Own the visual presentation of live-op mini-game features, pushing the quality while adhering to the style set out by the Art Lead
  • Take feature art assets from concept to final render and integrate them into the Unity game engine
  • Be the artistic voice within your feature team, working with game designers to develop rewarding and fun experiences that will keep players entertained for years
  • Drive visual improvements to the game, using the skills you have where applicable or leading shared art resources to achieve your vision when required
  • Work with developers and technical artists to reach new levels of explosive visual quality
