Black Shamrock - A Virtuos Studio is seeking an Associate Technical Director to join us in developing AAA games for some of the most renowned studios in the world. We are looking for a candidate with proven experience in the games industry, a strong foundation in C++, and with the skills to manage a team. You will have the opportunity to investigate and develop exciting new technologies that push the boundaries of the games industry. In your role, you will also be responsible for mentoring lead and senior engineers at Black Shamrock.

This role is an exceptional opportunity to work on leading technologies, prestigious properties, and even original projects within the Virtuos Group.

 

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of C++ programming experience  
  • At least 6 years working in the games industry 
  • Expert knowledge in one or more major functional areas of game development, such as rendering, engine systems, tools and pipelines, and backend  
  • Solid experience of Unreal Engine or equivalent AAA custom engine 
  • Exceptional management and communication skills 
  • Ability to train and mentor juniors and seniors 
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices

 

Advantageous Skills 

  • Recent experience in console development with at least one shipped title 
  • Completed evaluations and defined objectives for engineers 
  • Coordinated with various stakeholders throughout the game development process 

Responsibilities

  • Identify solutions to difficult engineering challenges for our clients covering a wide range of areas such as low-level programming, rendering, tools, automation, and more.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction of a team of seniors and juniors.
  • Manage the performance of the engineering team and conduct direct reports.
  • Establish strong coding standards and practices for team members.
  • Create tools, features, and custom technology components.
  • Identify training needs and potential talent within a team. 
  • Report project risks in a timely manner, propose mitigations, and escalate as needed.
  • Analyze and create technical documentation.
  • Share knowledge with other teams at Black Shamrock and Virtuos.
