About us
Kaga City, located in the southernmost part of Ishikawa Prefecture, is a renowned hot spring destination known for the Kaga Onsen-kyo, which comprises the three celebrated hot spring areas of Yamashiro, Yamanaka, and Katayamazu. Each Onsen provides distinct experiences, featuring historical significance, natural beauty, traditional crafts, and therapeutic hot spring waters.
The city is deeply rooted in traditional craftsmanship, boasting artisanal treasures like Kutani porcelain and Yamanaka lacquerware. It also holds cultural significance as part of the historic Kitamaebune trade route, recognized as a Japan Heritage site.
Kaga’s rich food culture features fresh local delicacies such as crab, sweet shrimp, and wild duck. The duck is caught using a traditional winter-only method called Sakaami-ryo, which is designated as an Ishikawa Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. Practiced for just three months each year, it yields around 200 ducks annually, prized for their rich flavor and firm texture.
While preserving its traditions, Kaga also looks to the future as a National Strategic Special Zone, promoting the early adoption of advanced technologies and the development of new industries.
